Boston College Professor Rebecca Valette presents an illustrated lecture that traces the stylistic development of Navajo textiles from highly original and complex designs created in the early 20th century to later, more standardized designs. With her husband Jean-Paul, Valette is co-author of a book on Navajo textiles entitled Weaving the Dance. The lecture was offered in conjunction with the exhibition Cowboys, Indians, and the Big Picture at the McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College. Valette is introduced by Nancy Netzer, director, McMullen Museum of Art.
