Chief Executives’ Club of Boston: Glenn F. Tilton

United Airlines chief executive Glenn F. Tilton discusses the future of America’s airline industry in his speech to the Boston College CEO Club. Recently returned from a trip to Asia where United is the leading air carrier, Tilton focuses on the competitive realities companies face today in the global marketplace. He asserts that the U.S. aviation industry's future—which is crucial to almost all domestic businesses, he says—depends on America’s ability to modernize and adapt to new challenges. He compares the approach of foreign companies, which have modernized and grown, to the “lazy attitudes” of many in the U.S. airline industry and government. We do not compete “in the world as it was, nor the world as we wish it to be,” he cautions.
