The Church in the 21st Century initiative launches its second year. Tim Russert (NBC News and Meet the Press) moderates a panel discussion with six Catholics on the state of the American Catholic Church—what has been learned in the aftermath of the sexual abuse crisis, and what challenges lie ahead. Panelists are Patrick Downes ’05; Fr. J. Bryan Hehir, president, Catholic Charities USA; Mary Johnson, S.N.D., associate professor of sociology and religious studies at Emmanuel College; Catalina Montes, principal of the Thomas Gardner Elementary School, Allston, Massachusetts; Elizabeth M. Paulhus ’04; and Peter Steinfels, religion correspondent for the New York Times.

Opening remarks are offered by University Trustee Jack Connors, Jr. and University President William P. Leahy, S.J.
