Anne Rasmussen is associate professor of music and ethnomusicology at the College of William and Mary, where she also directs a Middle Eastern music ensemble. Her talk explores assumptions about Islamic women and music, based on contemporary Indonesian perspectives and practice.

Rasmussen is introduced by Ali Banuazizi, psychology professor at Boston College, and cochair of the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Program. The talk is followed by a concert of Middle Eastern music performed by Rasmussen and her colleagues, Anne Elise Thomas and Karim Nagi Mohammed.
