Marc F. Plattner is the editor of Journal of Democracy, a quarterly publication that addresses the problems and prospects of democracy around the world. He is currently director of the International Forum for Democratic Studies, and vice president for research and studies at the National Endowment for Democracy, where he was director from 1984 to 1989. Plattner is the author of many articles and books, including How People View Democracy (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008) (with Larry Diamond), and Democracy Without Borders? Global Challenges to Liberal Democracy (Rowman and Littlefield, 2008).
