Boston Police Commissioner Kathleen O'Toole '76

Boston Police Commissioner Kathleen M. O'Toole '76 returns to campus as part of the “Master Class: Alumni in Residence” series, to present a snapshot of police work in Boston today and to trace her own career path. The former political science major discusses the trajectory that led her to being named Boston's first female police commissioner in early 2004—from her beginnings in 1979 as a Boston police officer, to posts she has held as the state's secretary of public safety, the founder of an international security and crisis management consulting firm, and a member of a panel recommending reforms for the Northern Ireland police force.
O'Toole is introduced by Ben Birnbaum, the editor of Boston College Magazine, and is interviewed by Mark Landy, a professor of political science at Boston College.
