In this introductory talk for the 3rd annual Bloomsday Boston, a celebration of James Joyce’s epic novel, Ulysses, Joseph Nugent, assistant professor of English at Boston College, argues that the novel, which was understood by few when it was published in 1922, is becoming easier to decipher, largely due to modern, information-access technologies such as Google Earth and GPS systems. “Technology can help us to navigate its unfamiliar territory,” says Nugent. “It can help us to decode the book's secrets.”
