“No News Is Bad News: The Role of the Media in Our Democracy” was the title of a daylong symposium presented by the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities, hosted by Boston College. In the third session panelists discussed how the business interests of media conglomerates affect the content and form of news coverage. The speakers were Neil Brown, former executive editor of the St. Petersburg Times; David Carr of the New York Times; John Carroll, former editor of the Los Angeles Times; and Ellen Hume of the UMass Boston Center for Media and Society.
