The eighth annual Mass Humanities fall symposium explores the political, social, and cultural impacts of the Internet on democracy.
The day's second group of panelists—Kate Crawford, associate professor in the Journalism and Media Research Centre at the University of New South Wales; Virginia Heffernan, opinion page columnist at the New York Times; and Siva Vaidhyanathan, professor of media studies at the University of Virginia—discusses the social impact of the Internet. Cullen Murphy, editor-at-large at Vanity Fair, serves as the panel's moderator. Lois Brown, the Elizabeth Small Professor of English at Mount Holyoke College and a Mass Humanities board member, provides the session introduction.
