The Globalization Debate: Rhetoric and Reality

James R. Markusen ’70, Ph.D.’73, is the Stanford Calderwood Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He analyzes the anti-globalization movement that arose in the 1990s and presents evidence that challenges the movement’s claims. And he attempts to refocus the debate on aspects of globalization that are potentially detrimental to developing countries yet are not, he says, being addressed by anti-globalization activists. His talk is part of a lecture series by graduates that celebrates the Boston College Graduate School of Arts & Sciences’ 75th anniversary.
Markusen is introduced by Marvin Kraus, a professor in the Boston College economics department.
