Writers Among Us: Elizabeth Graver

Elizabeth Graver, a fiction writer and member of the Boston College English faculty, reads selections from her new novel, Awake (Henry Holt, 2004), in which the central character is a former painter whose life now revolves around caring for her ill son. The child, suffering from a rare genetic disease, is so vulnerable to ultraviolet rays that he cannot be exposed to sunlight without incurring serious damage to his skin. Graver is also the author of novels Unravelling (Hyperion, 1997) and The Honey Thief (Hyperion, 1999), both New York Times Notable Books. Her work has been anthologized in Best American Short Stories, Best American Essays, the Pushcart Prize Anthology, and Prize Stories: The O'Henry Awards.
Graver is introduced by Boston College Magazine deputy editor Anna Marie Murphy. The reading is a part of “Writers Among Us: Boston College Readings,” a series spotlighting authors in the BC community.
