Secularism and Cultural Shift in Contemporary Ireland

Historian Tom Garvin, of Dublin’s University College, is the 2006-07 Burns Library Visiting Scholar in Irish Studies. In this program, part of the Turning Points in Irish History Lecture Series, he compares the Ireland of the 1960s with the nation today to illustrate its move towards secularism—a trend, he observes, which may be the opposite of what has happened in the United States.
