God and Morality in the Public Sphere

Robert Drinan, SJ, '42 presents “God and Morality in the Public Sphere,” a lecture on religion and its place in politics and law. Ordained as a Catholic priest in 1953, Drinan served as dean of Boston College Law School from 1956 to 1970. He then ran for elected office and represented Massachusetts in the United States House of Representatives for five terms from 1971 to 1981, when he was instructed by the Vatican to stand down. Since 1981, Fr. Drinan has served as a law professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. He has long been an advocate for international human rights, serving on the boards of directors of the International League for Human Rights as well as on the Lawyer's Committee for International Human Rights. Fr. Drinan has also participated in human rights missions in El Salvador, Chile, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
