Canadian Lieutenant General Roméo Dallaire led the United Nations peacekeeping mission during the Rwandan genocide of 1994. He is the author of Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda (2004). In this presentation, he reviews the responses of Christian churches to that genocide and maps a course for future activism to prevent such humanitarian catastrophes.

Welcoming remarks are offered by David Hollenbach, SJ, who is the Margaret O'Brien Flatley Professor of Theology at Boston College. Dallaire is introduced by Carol Rittner, RSM, a professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
