The Pain and Privilege: Reflections on the Crisis in the Priesthood in the Light of the Decree of Priestly Formation

John Carroll University Professor of Religious Studies Donald Cozzens examines the Decree of Priestly Formation, discusses the dramatic drop in seminarians, and explores the challenges facing the Church in educating and forming priests. Cozzens is a priest of the diocese of Cleveland and past president, rector, and professor of pastoral theology at St. Mary’s Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Ohio. He is the author of many books including The Spirituality of the Diocesan Priest, The Changing Face of the Priesthood, and Sacred Silence: Denial and the Crisis in the Church.
