Lois Brown, Ph.D ’93, is an associate professor of English at Mount Holyoke College, where she teaches 19th century American women’s writing and African American literature. She has received fellowships and awards from Harvard University’s W.E.B. DuBois Institute and the Ford Foundation. Her talk examines the connection between historic events and literary movements.
