Ireland and the British Empire, 1690-1800

Thomas Bartlett holds a chair in modern Irish history at University College, Dublin; his books include The Fall and Rise of the Irish Nation (1992) and A Military History of Ireland (1997). His talk delineates the events that led to Ireland joining with Great Britain in a legislative union at the turn of the 19th century. His talk is sixth in a series of nine lectures at Boston College on "Ireland and the British Empire."
